In Loving Memory of
Richard ‘Uncle Fuzz’ Lane
08/20/55 - 07/16/20

Ride High in the Skies and Rest in Peace Brother.

You can’t judge a book by its cover, at least you shouldn’t. That’s what people said about Uncle Fuzz. He had a rough, mean-looking exterior, yet he was a sweetheart and good friend to many.

Richard was born and raised in Miami, Florida. After high school, he earned an Associates Degree at Miami-Dade College. Eventually, he met and married Gloria Hasbany (Lane) until her untimely death in 2005.

Rick worked for many years as a videographer for WLRN until he became a free-lance cameraman. Throughout his video career, he had many opportunities, including working for the Florida Marlins from their inception at Joe Robbie Stadium, a cameraman for the Florida Panthers, Miami Heat, Telemundo as well as concerts and many other events. He was hired by the Rolling Stones and had a relationship with David Crosby of Crosby, Stills, and Nash. He even traveled to Haiti to film the Pope.

Rick’s career was his passion. At the same time, he was a strong supporter of the 2nd amendment. He was an avid shooter and collected guns, often practicing at the range. He also had a passion for dogs. He loved his dog Trip and if you had a dog, he loved your dog too!

Many were acquainted with Uncle Fuzz through various motorcycle events in South Florida. He was a lifetime member (12 years) of the Wheels of Man, Deerfield Beach Chapter, often holding the position of Sergeant of Arms. He was a devoted club member until he sustained a back injury on the job and became disabled, along with several other health problems. As one club member said, "He could either be scary or be a teddy bear’. Another person said his friendship was unexpected. ‘I’m so glad I became his friend… my memories of him will always be treasured.’ And wit" deep emotional, a very dear friend expressed, "He was always there for me".

Richard suffered a massive heart attack that he never recovered from. He passed peacefully, quietly, and free from Covid19 on Thursday, July 16th. He is survived by his sister Claudia Lane Piranio and her husband Bob and one niece that he adored, Allison Piranio Young and her husband Jonathan Young. His dog and best friend Trip also survives him.

May Uncle Fuzz now rest in eternal peace. WIDE... OPEN; FOREVER THE WHEELS!

Respectfully,
Chrissy Leonhardt
